Worm infections costing India billions in lost income

More than 290 million Indians, including many school-aged children, suffer from Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) costing the region billions in lost productivity each year. A new report from Dr Peter Hotez, the President of the Sabin Vaccine Institute has highlighted the links between NTD infections and poverty and called for greater coordination between governments and development partners to elminate these treatable infections.

The need for more coordination notwithstanding, there have been some major success stories in India, and among them is the DtW supported
school-based deworming drive in Bihar in which over 17 million children were dewormed.
