The Eastern and Southern Africa Centre of International Parasite Control (ESACIPAC), based in the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri), was created under the Global Parasite Control Initiative with the mission to strengthen human resource development and promote control programs to fight parasitic diseases in eastern and southern Africa. This includes Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania (mainland), Zanzibar, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. In addition to running its own successful school-based parasite control project in central Kenya, ESACIPAC conducts international courses aimed at building capacity in program management, focusing on strategic planning, implementation and the practical challenges and opportunities related to school health and deworming. ESACIPAC also collaborates directly with The Partnership for Child Development, JICA, the WHO and ministries of health and education.
